NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Jasmine Bien-Aime (Cambridge, Mass.) of the women’s indoor track and field team and sophomore Dean Bhatt (Hamden, Conn.) of the men’s indoor track and field team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Bien-Aime captured first place in the 200 meters at the Sorlien Invitational at the University of Rhode Island over the weekend. Her time of 25.34 seconds was a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Bien-Aime finished ahead of Division I competitors from UConn, URI and Central Connecticut in her first place performance. She also placed seventh in the 60 meters (7.85 seconds).
Bhatt finished fifth in the 1,000 meters at the Sorlien Invitational at the University of Rhode Island with a time of 2:32.72. His time bested competitors from the likes of UConn, URI, Providence, Central Connecticut, Navy and Bryant. He also placed fourth as a part of the 4x800 relay (8:01.50).
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
