NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Sophomore Shattajah Wattely (Uncasville, Conn.) of the women’s indoor track and field team and Luke Houston (Pearl River, N.Y.) of the men’s basketball team have been selected as the Connecticut Army National Guard/SCSU Athletes of the Week.
Wattely posted a NCAA Division II automatic qualifying time with a second place finish in the 200 meters (24.00 seconds) at the Boston University Terrier Invitational over the weekend. Wattely’s time is the second best in Division II this year. She also finished 13th in the 400 meters with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 56.52 seconds.
Houston powered the Owls to a double-overtime win at Assumption in Southern’s only game of the week. He registered 25 points, a career-high eight steals, five assists and five rebounds in the game. He was named to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll for his effort.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
