NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Emma Farrel (Cheshire, Conn.) of the women’s lacrosse team and senior Tresley Dupont (Tiverton, R.I.) of the men’s outdoor track and field team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Farrel had a team-high eight goals for the Owls last week, including the game-winning marker with less than a minute to go in Southern's 13-12 win over Merrimack on Saturday. She scored a hat trick against Stonehill, a single goal against LeMoyne and four goals against Merrimack. Farrel also had seven draw controls during the week.
Dupont claimed first in the hammer throw at the Monmouth Season Opener this past weekend with a mark of 61.26 meters. His toss is currently No. 6 in all of Division II and was also a NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
