NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior Angelique Ross (Hartford, Conn.) of the women’s outdoor track and field team and senior Michael Cameron (Hartford, Conn.) of the men’s outdoor track and field team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Ross was named the Co-Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Northeast-10 Championships after helping the Owls win the league title. She won the heptathlon with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 4,496 points. She also finished second in the high jump, fifth in the long jump and sixth in the 100 hurdles in individual events.
Cameron was tabbed as the Most Outstanding Field Performer of the NE-10 Championships as well in helping the Owls claim their 13th straight outdoor crown. He claimed the shot put with a mark of 18.06 meters and the discus with a heave of 52.51 meters. Both figures were NCAA provisional qualifying marks.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
