NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Kelly Gunneson (Cheshire, Conn.) of the volleyball team and sophomore Louis Greenway Tambini (Nottingham, England) of the men’s soccer team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Gunneson played a key role in the Owls’ offensive attack in their four matches last week. She opened the week with seven kills in Southern’s five-set win over Queens. Two days later, she registered a career-high 16 kills along with seven digs in a match against Georgian Court. Gunneson followed that effort up with 14 kills in a match against Bloomfield on Saturday.
Greenway Tambini collected a goal in the Owls’ only match of the week, a 2-0 clean sheet over LeMoyne in the team’s Northeast-10 Conference opener.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
