NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Caroline Staudle (New Windsor, N.Y.) of the women’s soccer team and sophomore Louis Greenway Tambini (Nottingham, England) of the men’s soccer team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Staudle played an integral role in a 2-0 week for the Owls. She netted a pair of goals, her third and fourth of the year, in Southern’s 3-2 win over Franklin Pierce on Friday. Staudle also assisted on the Owls’ only goal in the win over Pace.
Greenway Tambini collected a pair of game-winning goals and had three total tallies, in a 2-0 week for the Owls. He scored in the 65th minute against New Haven in a 1-0 victory on Wednesday. Three days later against Franklin Pierce, Greenway Tambini scored in the second minute of extra time in a 3-2 triumph over the Ravens. He also netted a first half goal in that match.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
