NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Natasha Fitzpatrick (West Moonah, Australia) of the women’s cross country team and senior Dieter Gutbrod (Sandy Hook, Conn.) of the men’s cross country team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Fitzpatrick earned All-Northeast-10 Conference honors and was the top finisher for SCSU at this past weekend’s NE-10 Championship. She placed 11th overall with a time of 23:06.8. Thanks in part to Fitzpatrick’s efforts, the Owls placed 10th as a team at the competition.
Gutbrod continued his strong campaign with a fourth place overall finish en route to All-Northeast-10 Conference laurels this weekend. He completed the course in a time of 25:06. The Owls finished eighth as a team thanks in part to Gutbrod’s performance.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
