NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Chandler Williams (Chepachet, R.I.) of the women's basketball team and junior Michael Mallory (Waterbury, Conn.) of the men's basketball team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Williams registered a career and team-high 13 points, including a troika of three-pointers, in the Owls' 70-60 victory over St. Edward's on Sunday.
Mallory scored a career-high 43 points, including nine three-pointers, in the Owls' 107-94 win over American International on Tuesday. It was the most points scored by an Owl in a game in almost 40 years, and was just three off the SCSU single-game record.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
