NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Shatajah Wattely (Uncasville, Conn.) of the women’s indoor track and field team and senior Raymond Cswerko (Torrington, Conn.) of the men’s swimming and diving team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Wattely set a new SCSU record in the 60 meters with a time of 7.58 seconds at the Dartmouth Invitational on Sunday. Her time is the fourth-best in Division II this year and a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. She also ran a leg of the 4x200 relay that finished first with a time of 1:42.6.
Cswerko finished first in three individual events – the 100 yard butterfly (51.24), the 100 yard backstroke (51.23) and the 200 yard backstroke (1:53.48) as the Owls tied Division I Marist on Saturday. He and his team also finished first in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:35.92.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
