NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Katherine Crochet (Waterbury, Conn.) of the women’s swimming and diving team and senior Raymond Cswerko (Torrington, Conn.) of the men’s swimming and diving team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Crochet had a hand in three victories for the Owls on Friday in their team triumph over Pace. She finished first in both the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.40 and the 50 yard free at 24.54. She also swam a leg of the winning 200 yard freestyle relay, which had a time of 1:42.60.
Cswerko had two individual first place finishes and was a part of the winning 400 medley relay in Friday’s Senior Day victory over Pace. He won the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 51.37 and the 200 yard breaststroke at 2:08.72. He and his team also finished first in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:30.38.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
