NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Crystle Hill (Norwalk, Conn.) of the women’s indoor track and field team and senior Michael Lee (New London, Conn.) of the men’s indoor track team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Hill was named the Co-Most Outstanding Track Performer at this past weekend’s Northeast-10 Conference Championship. In the process, she helped the Owls to a second place team finish. Hill captured the NE-10 titles in both the 60 meters and the 500 meters on Saturday. Her time of 7.57 seconds in the 60 meters was a NCAA provisional qualifying figure and also set a new SCSU school record in that event. Hill also finished third in the 200 meters.
Lee reset his own school record in the triple jump and set a new NE-10 record in that event in the process with his leap of 15.65 meters on Saturday. That figure is also the top mark in all of Division II this winter and a NCAA automatic qualifying total. In addition, Lee placed second in the long jump with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark and was fifth in the high jump. SCSU placed second at the NE-10 Championships as a team thanks in part to Lee.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
