Southern Connecticut State University Athletics

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Nicole Pruchnik (Rochester, Mass.) of the gymnastics team and senior Jake Paul (Kingston, N.Y.) of the baseball team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.

Pruchnik led the Owls with three top-10 finishes at this weekend’s ECAC Division II Gymnastics Championships and helped the team register a season-high score. She had Southern’s top overall individual finish when she placed second on the beam with a score of 9.775. She also finished eighth on the vault with a 9.625 and tied for 10th on the floor exercise with a 9.675.

Paul batted .500 (7-for-14) for the Owls during their spring trip to Florida last week. He posted multiple hits in all three of his outings and added three runs batted in and two runs scored.

The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
