NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Carolynn Keal (Southington, Conn.) of the women’s lacrosse team and senior Jason Harper (Saugus, Mass.) of the baseball team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Keal led the Owls with seven goals in three games last week, including hat tricks in conference games against No. 10 nationally ranked New Haven and St. Michael’s. She also netted a goal in Southern’s win over St. Leo on Saturday. Keal also registered seven groundballs and five caused turnovers for the Owls during the week.
Harper had two strong outings on the hill for the Owls last week en route to a 1-0 mark with a 2.53 earned run average. He earned a victory by tossing 2.2 innings of relief in Southern’s win over No. 17 nationally ranked Lynn. Harper then merited just one earned run over eight innings in a no-decision against Pace on Saturday.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
