NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Nicole Pruchnik (Rochester, Mass.) of the gymnastics team and senior Ethan Chapman (Post Mills, Vt.) of the men’s outdoor track and field team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Pruchnik concluded her collegiate career over the weekend at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships and earned All-America honors in the floor exercise. She competed in three events at the championships and also had top-20 marks on the vault and beam. In Sunday’s individual finals, she finished eighth with a score of 9.825.
Chapman finished second in the decathlon at the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships with a score of 6,221 points. That figure was both a NCAA provisional qualifying and a personal-best mark.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
