NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Nicole Healey (Milford, Conn.) of the women’s lacrosse team and senior Jake Paul (Kingston, N.Y.) of the baseball team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Healey had a team-high 11 points (eight goals, three assists) in a 1-1 week for the Owls. She started the week by netting a hat trick, including the game-winning goal just 1:07 into overtime, in Southern’s 7-6 win over AIC. Healey then contributed a career-high seven points (five goals, two assists) in a one-goal loss at Southern New Hampshire. She also had six groundballs and three caused turnovers last week.
Paul played a pivotal role in a 4-1 week for the Owls. He batted .455 (10-for-22) with two home runs, eight RBI and six runs scored. Paul had a hit in all five games during the week, including four multiple-hit efforts and three multiple RBI performances.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
