NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Leanna Jadus (Long Beach, Calif.) of the volleyball team and senior Christian Samaniego (Toronto, Ontario) of the men's soccer team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Jadus led the Owls in kills and digs during their season-opening weekend. She registered double digits in kills in each of Southern's four matches, including a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs in a win over Molloy.
Samaniego recorded three points in the Owls' season opening victory over Dominican, including the game-winning goal late in the second half.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
