NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Kiana Steinauer (Oakville, Ontario) of the women’s basketball team and senior Michael Mallory (Waterbury, Conn.) of the men’s basketball team have been selected as the Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Steinauer posted consecutive double-doubles, the first of her collegiate career, in a 1-1 week for the Owls. She kicked off the week with 14 points and 11 rebounds in a win at Assumption and followed that up with 15 points and 16 boards in a close loss to No. 20 nationally ranked Bentley. Steinauer also hit on 60-percent of her shots from the floor on the week.
Mallory continued his strong all-around play by averaging 25.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 blocks per game in two Owls' wins last week. He opened the week with a team-high 19 points and a team-high seven assists in a win at Assumption. Mallory followed that up with a double-double (31 points and 11 rebounds) in Southern's win over Bentley. He also hit on 56-percent of his field goals for the week (18-of-32).
