NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Brianna Craft (Hamden, Conn.) of the field hockey team and senior Noah Varonier (Miller Place, N.Y.) of the men’s soccer team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Craft had a stellar week in goal for the Owls, highlighted by her 27-save performance in the Owls’ loss to No. 8 nationally ranked LIU-Post. The 27 saves were a new SCSU single-game mark and the fifth-highest single-game total in Northeast-10 Conference history. She also made 13 saves in a game against Franklin Pierce.
Varonier backstopped the Owls to a 1-0-1 week, capped by a shutout in a scoreless draw against Bentley on Saturday. He turned away four shots in that contest and two in a victory over New Haven earlier in the week.
Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
