NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Kiana Steinauer (Oakville, Ontario) of the women’s basketball team and junior Isaiah McLeod (Cambridge, Mass.) of the men’s basketball team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Steinauer continued her strong play as the Owls stretched their winning streak to four straight with triumphs over Concordia and Dominican. She averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds per game last week for the Owls. Steinauer scored 15 points and added eight rebounds in the win over Concordia and followed with 13 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Dominican. She also connected on 12-of-21 (60%) of her field goals in the two games.
McLeod averaged 21.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals for the Owls last week. He capped the two-game stretch by scoring a career-high 28 points and adding 10 rebounds in a win over No. 24 nationally ranked Merrimack. The double-double was the third of his collegiate career. McLeod also had 14 points and seven rebounds against Concordia.
Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
