NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Alyssa Gage (Beverly Hills, Fla.) of the volleyball team and sophomore Michael Agyeman (Manchester, Conn.) of the men's indoor track and field team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Gage was named to the NCAA East Regional All-Tournament Team after helping the Owls’ advance to the regional semifinals during their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. She started the weekend with 18 kills in the opening round win over New York Tech and added 16 kills and a career-high nine blocks against New Haven. Gage posted a .394 hitting percentage in the two matches.
Agyeman opened the indoor campaign by winning the triple jump at the Elm City Challenge last weekend, a competition in which the Owls also finished first as a team. His leap of 14.94 meters was a NCAA provisional qualifying mark and is currently the third-best in Division II this season. Agyeman’s career-best mark is also the 10th best in program history.
Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
