NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Destiney Coward (East Haven, Conn.) of the women's indoor track and field team and redshirt senior Yakabu Ibrahim (Somerset, N.J.) of the men's indoor track and field team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Coward captured first place in the weight throw at the Yale Season Opener. She posted a mark of 20.16 meters, which reset her own school record and automatically qualified her for the NCAA Championships. Coward's throw is also the tops in Division II this winter and the fifth-best throw amongst all levels.
Ibrahim claimed first place in the 60 hurdles at the Yale Season Opener over the weekend. His time of 7.91 was a NCAA provisional qualifying time and just .01 off a NCAA automatic qualifying mark. Ibrahim's time is currently tops in Division II.
Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
