NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Katherine Crochet (Watertown, Conn.) of the women’s swimming and diving team and senior Yakabu Ibrahim (Somerset, N.J.) of the men’s indoor track and field team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Crochet registered a total of four first-place finishes in the Owls’ meets against Marist and Saint Rose over the weekend. She claimed first place in the 50 freestyle in both competitions. In addition, Crochet also touched the wall first in the 100 and 200 freestyle in the meet against Marist.
Ibrahim bested a finals field inclusive of seven Division I competitors to claim the top spot in the 60 hurdles at the URI Sorlein Invitational. His time of 8.10 seconds was a NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
