NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Kylyn Dawkins (Bridgeton, N.J.) of the gymnastics team and senior Yakabu Ibrahim (Somerset, N.J.) of the men’s indoor track and field team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Dawkins posted three top-four individual scores as part of a strong team effort that saw the Owls knock off Rhode Island College on Saturday. She tied for first on the beam (9.65), placed second on floor (9.725) and was fourth on the vault (9.325).
Ibrahim claimed the New England crown – the third indoor title of his career – in the 60 hurdles at this past weekend’s all-division New England Championships. He also collected All-New England honors in the 60 meters (7.36). Ibrahim’s time of 8.04 in the 60 hurdles was also a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Thanks in part to Ibrahim's efforts, the Owls placed fourth as a team.
Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
