NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Destiney Coward (East Haven, Conn.) of the women’s indoor track and field team and junior Turner Kelly (Amityville, N.Y.) of the men’s indoor track and field team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Coward was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer of the NE10 Track and Field Championships after helping the Owls to a runner-up finish over the weekend. She claimed the NE10 titles in the shot put (13.67m) and the weight throw (20.25m). Her mark in the shot put was a NCAA provisional qualifying mark, and her mark in the weight throw was a NCAA automatic qualifying mark.
Kelly also collected Most Outstanding Field Performer honors at the NE10 Track and Field Championships over the weekend. He also claimed first place in both the weight throw (17.51m) and the shot put (15.74m). Thanks in part to Kelly’s efforts, the Owls captured their 13th NE10 indoor title. Kelly also posted a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the weight throw.
