NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Cody Hall (Parker, Colo.) of the women’s swimming and diving team and senior Ryan Whitehead (Darien, Conn.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for March.
Hall capped her Southern Connecticut career in style during the month of March. She earned All-America honors in five events – 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 500 freestyle and 1,000 freestyle – at the NCAA Championships. Hall finished as the National Runner-Up in the 500 freestyle, as she was edged by twelve-hundredths of a second in that event. She also placed third in the 1,000 freestyle and fifth in the 400 individual medley. Hall finished her career as a 16-time All-American and a two-time Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Swimmer of the Year (2009, 2010).
Whitehead captured All-America honors in the pole vault at the NCAA Indoor Championships during the month. He placed fourth overall in the event with a personal best leap of 16 feet, 7.25 inches. He also tied for fourth in that event during the Owls’ outdoor competition at the Raleigh (N.C.) Relays, where he finished ahead of competitors from the likes of the University of North Carolina, the University of Virginia, Dartmouth, Central Michigan, George Mason and East Carolina.
For the second consecutive year, Comcast is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Month’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Month’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each month for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
