NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Letecia Taylor (Plainfield, N.J.) of the women’s track and field team and sophomore Selasi Lumax (Somerset, N.J.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for April.

Taylor was a two-time Northeast-10 Conference Track Athlete of the Week in April. She captured the 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles at the Metropolitan Championships as the Owls finished second as a team at the event. She also won the 100 hurdles and was a part of the winning 4x100 relay at the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton. Taylor was also the top Division II finisher in the 400 hurdles at the University of North Carolina Classic.

Lumax was honored by the Northeast-10 Conference three times in April and was selected as the league’s Track Athlete of the Week on April 13. He finished first in the 400 meters at the Metropolitan Championships and also was a part of the winning 4x400 relay squad at that competition. Thanks to Lumax, the Owls claimed their first Metropolitan Championship in program history.

He also won two events (4x400 relay, 400 meters) at the Yale Springtime Invitational, ran a leg of the winning 4x400 relay at the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton, and finished third in the 800 meters at the University of North Carolina Classic.

For the second consecutive year, Comcast is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Month’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Month’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each month for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
