NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Graduate student Jacquelyn Fede (North Haven, Conn.) of the women’s soccer team and senior Rashaad Slowley (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) of the football team have been named as the Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for September.
Fede has made an immediate impact in her first season between the pipes for the Owls. During the month of September, she recorded a 7-1-1 mark and merited just one goal in the nine outings, posting eight shutouts along the way. Fede closed the month ranked fourth in Division II in goals against average and fifth in save percentage. Thanks in part to her efforts, the Owls ascended to a No. 25 ranking in the national poll.
Slowley helped the Owls to a 3-1 start to the year and finished the month with 482 yards in four games along with 12 touchdowns. He finished the month ranked No. 2 in Division II in scoring with an average of 18 points per game. He also ranked No. 11 in the nation in rushing yards per game (120.5). Slowley set a new school record with six touchdowns during a 205-yard effort against St. Anselm on Sept. 17 and was named Northeast-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts.
