NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Amanda Burden (Orange, Conn.) of the women’s swimming and diving team and junior Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) of the men’s basketball team have been named as the Southern Connecticut State University/Comcast Athletes of the Month for November.
Burden has enjoyed a fine start to the 2011-12 season for the Owls. During the month, she posted NCAA qualifying diving marks on both the one- and three-meter boards. The All-American won both events at the USMMA Invitational and was honored by the Northeast-10 Conference for her performance in a meet against the College of New Jersey.
Hamlet averaged 16.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 2.0 rebounds per game for the Owls in a 4-2 month. He scored double digits in all six games, while connecting on 59-percent of his shots from the floor (36-of-61) and 86-percent of his free throws (24-of-28). A preseason All-American by the Sporting News, he had one double-double in the month and also posted at least one block in all six games.
For the fourth consecutive year, Comcast is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Month’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Month’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each month for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
