NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Amanda Thomas (Oakville, Conn.) of the women’s swimming and diving team and sophomore Nick Lebron (Newington, Conn.) of the men’s indoor track and field team have been named as the Southern Connecticut State University/Comcast Athletes of the Month for March.

Thomas continued her dominance at this year’s NCAA Championships, as she won national titles in both the 200 and 400 individual medley, was the runner-up in the 200 butterfly and placed third in the 200 backstroke at this year's championships.

Thomas' time in the 200 individual medley (2:00.09) was a new NCAA record. By virtue of her efforts at this year’s NCAA Championships she now has three NCAA individual titles, three NCAA runner-up marks and is a 14-time All-American for her career. Thomas was also named the 2012 NCAA Division II Swimmer of the Year.

Lebron stepped into the national spotlight after capturing the NCAA title in the heptathlon at this year’s NCAA Championships. He posted a school record mark of 5,225 points en route to the 19th NCAA individual title in men’s track and field school history. Lebron was third after day one but vaulted to the top of the field with three strong marks on the second day of competition.

For the fourth consecutive year, Comcast is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Month’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Month’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each month for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
