Women’s Basketball Announces Captains For 2008-09 Season

Stephanie Hiriak, along with teammates, Logan Lentz and Lexi Allen have been named the captains for the 2008-09 women's basketball season.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University softball team has announced three veteran players that will serve as the team captains for the 2009 season. Sophomore Logan Lentz (Chambersburg, Pa.), juniors Lexi Allen (Southbury, Conn.) and Stephanie Hiriak (Wallingford, Conn.) and will lead the way for the Owls in the 2008-09 season.

Lentz started all 29 games for the Owls last season. She led the team in assists (100), assist/turnover ratio (1.52) and ranked second in minutes (31.3 per game). Lentz averaged 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game, and served as the team's offensive and defensive leader. The point guard from Chambersburg, Pa. was selected to the 2007-08 Northeast-10 Conference All-Rookie Team for her remarkable freshman season.

Allen played in all 29 games for the Owls, including 11 starts last season. She finished in a tie for third place on the team in three-point field goals made (29) and averaged 6.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. Allen scored a team-high 19 points in an exhibition contest at No. 2 Connecticut on November 17, 2007. Her veteran experience and talents will be a critical component to the success of this year's team.

Hiriak played in nine games as a reserve for the Owls and averaged 0.7 points and 0.8 rebounds per game last season. She scored a career-high four points at Le Moyne on November 28, 2007. With the Owls losing five seniors from the 2007-08 campaign, Hiriak will play a key role throughout the 2008-09 season.

The women's basketball team will open to the 2008-09 season at Moore Field House on Nov. 15 against Post University. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
