NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior forward
Kieran Ramsey (North Hollywood, Calif.) scored a game-high 21 points and added seven rebounds to lead three players in double figures as the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team moved to 3-0 on the year with a 76-58 win over LeMoyne in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both teams on Wednesday night.
LeMoyne jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, but a layup by
Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) just under five minutes into the half gave the Owls a 6-5 lead. The hosts never trailed again.
In all, the Owls used a 9-0 run to build an 11-5 cushion. LeMoyne closed within three at 13-10, but SCSU used a 7-0 culminated by an emphatic steal and dunk from
Dexton Williamson (Bridgeport, Conn.) to take a 20-10 lead with 9:31 remaining in the opening half.
Southern Connecticut led by as many as 13 in the opening stanza at 37-24. The Owls held a 37-26 advantage at halftime.
LeMoyne was unable to close within single digits in the second half. Southern Connecticut led by as many as 22 and went on to post an 18-point win.
Chazz McCarter (New Haven, Conn.) finished with 17 points and led the Owls with nine rebounds and four assists. Hamlet added 15 points and six rebounds. Williamson posted eight points, five rebounds and four blocks.
SCSU is back in action on Nov. 23 when it travels to Pace.
