GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - Sophomore forward Reilly Poirier (Dennis, Mass.) tallied a new career-high with 10 points, but the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team was defeated by Adelphi in a Northeast-10 Conference contest on Wednesday night, 67-47.
The Owls dropped to 3-3 overall, 1-3 in Northeast-10 Conference play with the loss. Adelphi is now 2-3, 1-3.
Sophomore Kara Tancredi (Beacon, N.Y.) completed a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Ashley Caiafa (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) led all scorers with 21 points and had nine rebounds, while junior Amanda Campusano (Bronx, N.Y.) contributed 13 points as well.
Poirer led the Owls in points with 10 also bringing in five rebounds. Junior Sylvonya Moore (Stockton, Calif.) and red-shirt freshman Milena Lazarevic (Gmunden, Austria) had seven points. Moore and senior Shelley Pierson (Watervliet, N.Y.) hauled in nine boards each.
Adelphi took a 26-16 lead into the locker room at half time. Shooting 51.6 percent from the field propelled the Panthers past the Owls' for a final score of 67-47.
Southern will play again on Dec. 4 as they travel to Albany, N.Y. for a match-up against Saint Rose set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
