Owls Open Northeast-10 Play With 77-67 Win Over Adelphi

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Five players scored in double figures for the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team as the Owls rallied from a 10-point first half deficit to claim a 77-67 win over Adelphi in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both teams on Wednesday night.

SCSU is now 2-1, 1-0 in league play, while Adelphi dropped its season opener.

Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the way with 21 points and seven rebounds. Dominique Langston (Bridgeport, Conn.) contributed 16 points and seven rebounds. Kyle Callanan (Bennington, Vt.) scored 13 points with six rebounds. Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) had 11 points, five rebounds and team highs of four assists and three steals. Luke Houston (Pearl River, N.Y.) scored 10 points with seven rebounds.




The game was a close affair in the early going. The Owls held an 11-10 lead five minutes in before Adelphi scored nine straight points. The Panthers extended their lead to 29-19 with 7:54 to play in the half before Southern Connecticut closed the half on a 16-6 run to even the score at 35-35 at the intermission.

Adelphi scored the first six points of the second half, but the Owls rolled off eight in a row to regain a two-point lead. The game was tied at 45-45, 47-47 and 49-49 before the Owls ran off eight straight points to take the lead for good.  Adelphi closed to within a point at 59-58 with 6:35 left, but SCSU went on a 9-2 run to take control for good.

SCSU held a 46-34 advantage on the boards, and seven players had at least five rebounds on the night.



Hamlet hit on 8-of-13 shots from the field and also handed out three assists and blocked two shots. Dominique Langston knocked down 7-of-14 field goals, including a pair of three-pointers, and also handed out three assists.

The Owls are back in action on Nov. 22 for a road game at Assumption.
