NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team used an 8-1 run in the waning minutes to pull away from Pace and secure a 64-57 win over the Setters in in a Northeast-10 Conference contest at Moore Field House on Wednesday night.
The Owls improved to 4-2 and 3-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Pace is now 3-3, 2-2.
Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the offense with 16 points, while also adding five rebounds and five blocked shots.
Dominique Langston (Stratford, Conn.) was the only other Owl in double digits, as he scored 13 points to go with a team-high four assists.
For the third time in as many home games, the Owls rallied from a second half deficit to come away with a win. The Setters led by seven, 44-37, with 11:24 remaining before SCSU responded with a 15-6 spurt over the next seven minutes to take a 52-50 lead with 4:19 left to play.
Pace would tie the game at 52-52 on its next trip down the floor, but the Owls scored eight of the next nine points to seize control and post the win.
The Owls led for the majority of the first half and held a 23-15 lead with just under five minutes to go in the frame. However, Pace closed the stanza by scoring nine of the final 13 points to get within three at the break, 27-24. The Setters then outscored the Owls by a 20-10 margin in the first eight minutes of the half before the hosts surged back for good.
Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) had eight points and a team-high seven boards, while
Kieran Ramsey (North Hollywood, Calif.) had eight points and six rebounds during the Owls' crucial second half run.
Southern Connecticut is back in action on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. road game at AIC.
