NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball made it four straight wins tonight, defeating Eckerd College, 73-68. The Owls got off to a strong start and led by as many as 18 points in the first half. The Owls shot 48-percent from the field and 50-percent from three-point range in the first half. The Tritons battled back in the second half and closed to within four with five minutes remaining, but the Owls managed to hold off Eckerd to win the game.
Senior captain
Alex Fiola (Fall River, Mass.) led the Owls in scoring, recording 19 points and two assists on the night. Fiola was 7-for-13 from the field and 3-for-7 from three-point range.
Sylvonya Moore (Stockton, Calif.) put together 14 points, five assists and two rebounds. Eight of her 14 points came from the free throw line.
Camille Fantini (Andover, Mass.) poured in 11 points and four rebounds in the game.
Shaniqua Fuller (West Haven, Conn.),
Keshia Primo (Mississauga, Ontario), and
Mariah Hankton (Upper Marlboro, Md.) each came off the bench and scored seven points.
Moni Smith-Ocran (Bronx, N.Y. controlled the boards, pulling down 13 rebounds to go along with three steals and six points.
Southern Connecticut moves to 6-3 on the season with the win. The Tritons moved to 7-2 on the year. The Owls' next game will be Friday, December 30 when they host Dominican College. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
