Women's Basketball Defeats No. 23 Franklin Pierce, 81-74, For Sixth Straight Win

RINDGE, N.H. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team defeated No. 23 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce tonight, 81-74. With the win, the Owls extended their winning streak to six straight. The Owls had four players with at least 10 points in the game in a balanced attack.

The Owls traded baskets with the Ravens throughout the first 10 minutes of the game but slowly pulled away in the final seven minutes of the first half. Southern Connecticut was able to build up a 14-point lead at halftime. The Owls were able to build up the lead to as high as 23 points in the second half but a late surge by the Ravens got to game to within seven points.

Senior Sylvonya Moore (Stockton, Calif.) led the way with a team-high 21 points. Moore also added four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Forward Keshia Primo (Mississauga, Ontario) also put together a stellar game, scoring 17 points, four boards and two steals. Camille Fantini (Andover, Mass.) added 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals in 31 minutes of action. Fantini was 4-for-5 from behind the three-point line. Guard Alex Fiola (Fall River, Mass.) tallied 10 points in 39 minutes of play. Forward Moni Smith-Ocran (Bronx, N.Y.) lead the team with 11 boards and added eight points and three blocks on the night.

Southern Connecticut moves to 8-3 on the season and 6-2 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Ravens move to 8-4 on the year and 5-3 in Northeast-10 Conference play.

The Owls next game will be Saturday when they return home to host UMass Lowell. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
