Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) tallied a team-high 24 points while freshman guard
Tylon Smith (Manchester, Conn.) notched a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to help the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team post a 76-69 win over LeMoyne on Tuesday night.
The Owls moved to 12-12 overall and 10-10 in Northeast-10 Conference play with the win. LeMoyne dropped to 11-13 overall and 7-13 in league action.
Langston also chipped in seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win.
Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 18 points and eight rebounds in the winning effort.
Dominique Langston (Bridgeport, Conn.) also reached double digits with 10 points and seven rebounds.
SCSU fell behind 7-2 out of the gate but went on an 11-5 run to take its first lead of the game, 13-12, with 10:45 left in the first half. LeMoyne would score the next basket, but the Owls followed with a 16-4 spurt to build a 29-18 advantage with 5:47 left in the opening frame.
LeMoyne closed the half by scoring 16 of the next 21 points, but the Owls still carried a 35-34 lead into the locker room.
SCSU led for practically the entire second half. LeMoyne took its only lead of the stanza, 44-43, with 14:03 left. The Owls then scored the next five points and never trailed again.
The Dolphins closed to within three at 65-62 with 4:27 left, but SCSU executed down the stretch to secure the victory.
Southern Connecticut is back in action on Saturday at 1:30 when it travels to New Haven. The two teams enter the contest tied in the NE-10 standings with identical 10-10 league marks. UNH defeated the Owls earlier this season in a game at Moore Field House.
