Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds as the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team capped the regular season with a 76-65 win at Adelphi on Tuesday evening.
With the win, the Owls capped a season sweep of first place Adelphi and moved to 14-12 overall and 12-10 in Northeast-10 play. Adelphi is now 19-7 overall and 16-7 in league play.
The Owls have qualified for the NE-10 Tournament and will learn word of their opponent later tonight. SCSU has won six of its last seven heading into the post-season.
Tylon Smith (Manchester, Conn.) added a dozen for the Owls, while
Jose Cruz (Worcester, Mass.) had 10 points.
Dominique Langston (Bridgeport, Conn.) and
Luke Houston (Pearl River, N.Y.) each finished with eight points.
Adelphi scored nine of the first 13 points of the game, but the Owls quickly countered with a 13-2 run to build a 17-11 advantage.
The Panthers followed with a 7-0 run, but Houston followed with back-to-back three-pointers, and the Owls never trailed again. SCSU led 30-25 at halftime.
The outcome was still up for grabs early in the second half, but the Owls seized control with a 13-2 run that turned a four-point lead into a 15-point cushion at 53-38.
Adelphi would close to within seven late, but SCSU hit 12-of-14 free throws in the final two minutes to secure the victory.
