No. 20 Nationally Ranked Women’s Basketball Wraps up Regular Season with Win Over Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The No. 20 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team wraps up the regular season with a road victory over Adelphi, 78-64. Camille Fantini (Andover, Mass.) led the squad, recording a double-double with 25 points and 11 boards along with two assists, two blocks and two steals.

The Panthers got out to a quick roll in the first half, going up 17-10 within the first seven minutes of game. Southern Connecticut took some time to get going but took the lead from the Panthers and led by five points with four minutes left in the first half. Adelphi quickly took the lead back and slipped into the locker room with a two point lead over Southern Connecticut

The Owls quickly came out firing in the second half and had a five-point lead with just under 12 minutes remaining in the game. SCSU built that lead up to a 13-point lead with five minutes remaining. The Panthers tried to mount a comeback late but Southern Connecticut never let them back into the game. SCSU never get the lead down past 10 minutes in the final three minutes of the game.

The Owls had three players with a double-figures in points, including Fantini. Sylvonya Moore (Stockton, Calif.) chipped in 15 points, eight boards, three assists, two blocks and four steals. Mariah Hankton (Upper Marlboro, Md.) recorded 14 points, five assists and a team-high six steals off the bench for SCSU. Moni Smith-Ocran (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded a team-high 13 rebounds to go along with eight points.

SCSU finished the regular season 22-4 on the season and 19-3 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Owls are currently ranked No. 2 in the Northeast-10 Conference tournament. SCSU will begin the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament on Sunday at home.
