SCSU Falls in Overtime to Bridgeport, 3-2

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Michael Martinez scored three minutes into overtime to give the University of Bridgeport a 3-2 overtime victory over the Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team. Danny Ruiz had the assist on the match-winner.

In the 23rd minute, Bridgeport got on the scoreboard first when a shot by Christoffer Olesen found the back of the goal. Lee Middleton assisted on the senior's first goal of the season.

Later in the first half, Mads Larsen (Trondheim, Norway) scored a match-equalizer. The sophomore broke through the Purple Knights' defense to beat the keeper.

In the second half, SCSU took a 2-1 when Sebastian Brems (Odense, Denmark) capitalized off of a Bridgeport turnover.

Olesen scored his second goal of the match in the 83rd minute. The tying goal came on a goal mouth scramble.

Stephen Sasso (Orange, Conn.) tallied five saves for Southern, which held an 18-15 shot advantage.

The Owls, now 4-5-1 (4-3-1 Northeast-10 Conference), return home Saturday to host Saint Anselm at 1 p.m.
