SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Three players were in double digits, but the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team was defeated in a tough road loss to Le Moyne, 81-60, in a Northeast-10 Conference game from Ted Grant Court in Syracuse, N.Y.
The Owls are on a two-game losing streak.
Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) led the Owls (16-8, 13-7 NE-10) with 19 points and five rebounds.
Deshawn Murphy (Hamden, Conn.) 15 points and four rebounds while
Rashamell Vereen (Meriden, Conn.) had 12 points.
Le Moyne (12-12, 9-11 NE-10) had four players in double digits led by Nate Champion with 18 points and six rebounds. Jim Janson had 17 points, three rebounds and five blocks while Connor Mahoney had 14 points and six rebounds.
In the first half, Le Moyne came out firing and would eventually be too much for the Owls.
With Le Moyne leading 11-8, the Owls hit back-to-back three pointers to take a 14-11 lead by
Luke Houston (Pearl River, N.Y.) and Murphy.
With the game tied at 19, SCSU would take a 23-19 lead after layups from Murphy and Langston.
Le Moyne would then go on a 10-0 run and would not relinquish the lead for the game.
The run started with a layup from Janson and was capped off by a jumper from Champion to take a 29-23 lead with 5:26 left in the half.
The Owls would get within 32-29 after after a three-pointer from Langston with 2:45 remaining in the half, but not get any closer for the game.
Le Moyne scored the last five points of the half,and took a 37-29 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Le Moyne would keep a double-digit lead for a good portion of the half.
Le Moyne took their biggest lead at 80-56 after free-throws from Champion with 3:31 remaining.
