Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led with 22 points as the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team defeated Adelphi in the regular season finale, 70-57, in a Northeast-10 Conference game at Moore Field House in New Haven, Conn.
The Owls (17-9, 14-8 NE-10) had five-players in double figures.
Deshawn Murphy (Hamden, Conn.) had 13 points and eight rebounds.
Luke Houston (Pearl River, N.Y.) chipped in 12 points,
Rashamell Vereen (Meriden, Conn.) had 11 points and
Tylon Smith (Manchester, Conn.) had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Adelphi (14-14, 11-11 NE-10) was led by John Calarco with 19 points.
In the first half, the Owls quickly jumped out to a 10-2 lead with 10 straight points capped off by free-throws from Houston.
The Owls then went on a 15-2 run to take a 27-14 lead. The run started with a layup from Hamlet to make it 14-12, and then it was capped off by Smith's layup to end the run.
SCSU led at halftime, 34-20.
In the second half, Adelphi quickly climbed back within single digits with a 7-0 run to make it 36-27 capped off by a layup from Nayquann Mitchell.
SCSU then kept the lead in double digits the rest of the way.
The Owls had their biggest lead at 67-50 after a layup from Houston with 3:50 remaining.
