Keshia Primo (Mississagua, Ontario), posting 25 points in its loss to Franklin Pierce, 76-68.
The Owls are now 9-9 overall, 5-7 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Franklin Pierce is now 10-7 overall, 7-5 in NE-10 Conference play.
Primo led all scoring with 25 along with five rebounds.
Jackie Beathea (Annandale, Va.) posted another double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds.
Taylor McLaughlin (Colchester, Conn.) tallied 11 points and five rebounds.
Sydni Lester (Teaneck, N.J.) recorded seven points and seven rebounds.
Danielle Powell (Pine Bush, N.Y.) and
Jacqueline Deens (Ivoryton, Conn.) both chipped in four points apiece.
15 of Primo's 25 points came in the first half. Southern was ahead most of the first half. With 3:53 remaining the Ravens tied it up at 24, followed by an 8-0 run to close out the first half, going into the break with a 32-24 lead.
The run by the Franklin Pierce continued into the second half. The Ravens held SCSU to only two points in the first three and a half minutes of the half. The largest lead came from Franklin Pierce with 10:30 left in the game when the score was 59-44. The Owls then went on an 11-2 run to cut the score down to 61-55 with six minutes remaining. The Owls were able to cut it to two at the 3:45 mark but were unable to conquer the lead. Franklin Pierce would take the win by a final score of 76-68.
Southern shot 35.5% from the field, 22.2% from three and 60% from the free-throw line this afternoon.
The Owls are back in action on Jan. 28 when they travel to take on Merrimack. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
