Jackie Beathea (Annandale, Va.) and
Danielle Powell (Middletown, N.Y.) of the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team each recorded their second double-double of the season Sunday evening as the Owls fell to the University of Bridgeport, 65-57.
Beathea finished the evening with a team-high 21 points and 16 rebounds while Powell registered 12 points and recorded a career-high 16 rebounds.

Chandler Williams (Chepachet, R.I.) chipped in with eight and six points for the Owls, respectively. Junior
Nicole Grossbard (Pearl River, N.Y.) led the Owls with eight assists and added four points and three rebounds of her own.
Southern Connecticut controlled the first eight minutes of action taking a 15-6 lead over the Purple Knights. Over the next 10 minutes of play, Southern Connecticut doubled their lead, 24-12, and took a six-point lead heading into halftime, 24-18. Williams and Beathea led the Owls at the half with six points each while Beathea hauled down a team-high 11 rebounds.
Bridgeport started the second half hot and managed to come back to tie the Owls at 30-all. Both teams traded leads over the next couple of minutes until a layup from Evelyn Ovner gave Bridgeport a six-point lead (51-45) with 6:11 left to play. Shortly after, Southern Connecticut found themselves down 11 (58-47), but rallied back to within six (63-57) after a fast break layup from Grossbard. However, it wasn't enough as the Owls fell to Bridgeport.
Southern Connecticut finished the evening shooting 27.5 percent from the field, 20 percent from deep, and 64.7 percent from the line. For Bridgeport, the team shot 41.3 percent from the floor, 17.6 percent from long range, and 62.5 percent from the line.
The Owls are back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 19 as the team opens up Northeast-10 Conference play against Adelphi University. First whistle is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
