Box Score NEW HAVEN, CONN. – The No. 2 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team hit the century mark for the third time this season in a 104-69 victory over Pace Tuesday evening at Moore Field House. All five starters scored in double digits for the Owls (6-0, 2-0 NE-10) as sophomore
Michael Mallory (Waterbury, Conn.) led the way with a game-high 21 points. Junior
Jack McCarthy (Wallingford, Conn.) tallied a new career-high with 10 points off the bench. Southern shot 60.9 percent (39-for-64) from the field in the game, including 73.3 percent (22-for-30) in the second half. The Owls were also a perfect 20-for-20 from the free throw line and had eleven different players register points. Kyle Pearson had a team-high 14 points for Pace (1-5, 0-3 NE-10).
Southern grabbed its first lead of the game of 12-11 at the 12:44 mark of the first half after a pair of Mallory free throws. After Pace retied the game at 16 nearly two minutes later, a layup by senior
Luke Houston with 10:54 remaining in the half put the Owls ahead for good at 18-16.
With 3:39 to go, Mallory sank one of his four three-pointers on the night to put the Owls up 37-26. Junior
Desmond Williams (Torrington, Conn.) then added back to back layups to increase the Owls lead to 15 points with 2:39 remaining.
Southern carried a 45-31 lead into the half, with Houston leading all scorers with 10 points.
By the time the midway point of the second half, the Owls had built up a 30 point lead after Mallory and McCarthy combined to score 22 consecutive points for the Owls. The 22-11 run saw eight points from McCarthy, including a dunk at the 11:07 mark. Mallory sank a trio of three-pointers and five free throws during the stretch.
Sophomore
Lucas Van Nes (Hamden, Conn.) amassed six points off the bench for Southern, including a layup with 2:35 remaining to bring to bring the lead to 98-66. Sophomore
Dominic Migliaro (Monroe, Conn.) put the Owls over the century mark with a jumper at the 2:10 mark. Junior Stephon Williams (Jamaica, N.Y.) and sophomore
Jonathan Paul (Westlake Village, Calif.) added two points apiece down the stretch to bring the score to its final of 104-69.
The Owls return to the court with a trip to Saint Rose on Wednesday, December 3. Tipoff from Albany, N.Y. is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
