Owls Drop Conference Match-Up to Adelphi, 94-76

Owls lose to Adelphi on the road, 94-76.

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. -Taylor McLaughlin (Colchester, Conn.) was able to score in double-digits for the fourth game in a row but it wasn't enough to get the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team passed Adelphi, losing to the Panthers 94-76. 

The Owls are now 12-11 overall, 8-9 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Adelphi is now 18-5 overall, 11-5 in NE-10 play. 

Jessica Kitrys from Adelphi led all scoring with 26 points. 

McLaughlin led all Owls scoring with 21 along with eight rebounds. Jackie Beathea (Annandale, Va.) tallied 18 points and four rebounds. Keshia Primo (Mississagua, Ontario) posted 12 points and four rebounds. Sydni Lester (Teaneck, N.J.) recorded 10 points along with four rebounds and three assists. Danielle Powell (Pine Bush, N.Y.) chipped in seven points and three rebounds. 

While McLaughlin scored 14 of her 21 in the first half, the Panthers took control getting out to a quick 22-13 lead. After SCSU cut it to seven points with 7:21 remaining, Adelphi went on another scoring surge going into halftime. The score at the break was 46-28. 

In the second half, the Owls tried to cut the score down a little bit at a time, but were unable to overcome the 20 point deficit. The Panthers led by as many as 27 points. Southern had a late push at the end and cut it down to 15 but time was not on their side. Adelphi would go on to win by a final score of 94-76. 

SCSU shot 47.1% from the field, 25% from three and 71.4% from the free-throw line. 

The Owls are back in action when they host Pace on Feb. 19. Tip-off for that match-up is set for 5:30 p.m.
