MCLAUGHLIN JOINS 1,000 POINT CLUB
In the loss to American International, Taylor McLaughlin joined the 1,000 point club after tying her career-high 29 points. She is now 17th in the all-time record book in career-points with 1,141.

NEW ARRIVALS
The Owls welcome six newcomers to the squad for the 2016-17 season - Imani Wheeler, Kiana Steinauer, Alyssa Irons, Bridget Sharnick, Maddie Brown and Jessica Fressle.

WELCOME BACK
Southern Connecticut returns 11 players from last year's squad – seniors Taylor McLaughlin and Maria Weselyj, juniors Murphy Murad, Chandler Williams, Abby Hurlbert, Paige Decker, Chloe Brinton and sophomores  Jana Migliaro, Amanda Pfohl, Allie Smith and Erin Ryder.

THE CAPTAINS
Southern Connecticut State University head women's basketball coach Kate Lynch has announced that seniors Taylor McLaughlin and  Maria Weselyj and redshirt junior Murphy Murad will serve as team tri-captains for the 2016-17 campaign.

OWLS TABBED TO FINISH FOURTH IN NE-10 PRESEASON POLL
The women's basketball team has been selected to finish fourth, along with division rival Le Moyne College, in the Southwest Division according to the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason poll, as voted on by the league's coaches. The Owls and the Dolphins both received a total of 47 points, while the Owls managed to get a first place vote.

LOOKING BACK AT LAST SEASON
The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team with a winning record of 19-11 as well as qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Championship for the third straight year. SCSU reached the semifinals before losing on the road to the eventual champion, Bentley.

HIT A CHAMPIONSHIP SHOT...MEET A SUPERSTAR
Prior to coming to SCSU, Maria Weselyj connected for the game-winning shot in the 2013 CIAC Class LL state championship while competing for Mercy High School. The shot gained national and international acclaim, and earlier this fall was included in Brad Paisley's video entitled "Today". Weselyj eventually met Paisley after the release of the video while he was on tour in Connecticut.

LYNCH MAKING AN IMPACT
Kate Lynch '08 begins her second season as head coach for the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team. Entering the year, Lynch had compiled a 100-76 overall record as a head coach. Lynch remains the all-time leading scorer in Owls' history (1,779 points) and ranks seventh all-time in rebounds (650). Following the 2015-16 season, she was selected by the WBCA as one of its "Thirty Under 30" honorees.

TOUGH COMPETITION AWAITS
The Owls will face four teams in 2016-17 that made the NCAA Tournament a year ago - Queens, Bentley, Saint Anselm and American International.

BEATHEA, POWELL EARN CONFERENCE HONORS
Jackie Beathea and Danielle Powell earned Northeast-10 Conference regular season honors for their play in 2015-16. Beathea was named to the First-Team while Powell was named to the Third-Team.

TRIO RANKS AMONGST SCSU CAREER LEADERS
Jackie Beathea, Nicole Grossbard and Danielle Powell made their mark on the SCSU women's basketball record book. Here's a look at where they finished their collegiate careers:
Jackie Beathea
• first in rebounds with 1216.
• first in highest rebounding average with 11.2.
• second in free throw attempts with 595.
• fourth in field goals made with 573.
• fourth in free throws made with 348.
• seventh in total points with 1,494.
Danielle Powell
• 15th in rebounds with 594.
• second in blocks with 117.
Nicole Grossbard
• third in total assists with 457.

EXCELLING IN THE CLASSROOM
Southern Connecticut had 11 student-athletes selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their work in the classroom during the 2015-16 academic year.

FIVE OWLS HONORED BY D2ADA
Chloe Brinton, Paige Decker, Abigail Hurlbert, Elizabeth McKinley and Taylor McLaughlin were all named as 2016 recipients of the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award for their work in the classroom.

2007 NCAA CHAMPS TO BE HONORED TWICE
Since the conclusion of the 2015-16 season, the national champion 2007 NCAA women's basketball team has been recognized with a pair of honors. The Owls were selected for induction as part of the Northeast-10 Conference Hall of Fame's Class of 2016. In addition, the team was also selected for induction into the SCSU Athletic Hall of Fame and will be formally honored in May, 2017.
