NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A 12-1 spurt to start the second half gave the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team the lead for good, turning a 39-36 halftime deficit into an eight-point lead. The Owls went on to claim 78-68 win over American International in NE10 action at Moore Field House this evening.

Michael Mallory (Waterbury, Conn.) finished with a game-high 25 points and added five rebounds, three assists, three blocks and a steal.
Isaiah McLeod (Cambridge, Mass.) chipped in 17 points, while
Jerry Luckett, Jr. (Milwaukee, Wisc.) just missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED: AIC led for the first five-plus minutes of action before the Owls finally took their first lead on a layup from
Toby Christensen (Gentofte, Denmark) for a 15-14 advantage. The lead seesawed for the next five minutes or so before the Yellow Jackets went back in front for the final nine-plus minutes of the frame.
Southern took control of the game with its run out of the locker room. Including a three-pointer from
Austin Carter (Bloomfield, Conn.) in the closing minutes of the first half, the Owls' run actually was a 15-1 run. Carter bookended the run with a pair of three-pointers, the second of which gave SCSU its largest lead of the game at the time at 48-40.
The Yellow Jackets cut Southern's lead to 53-50, but another 9-1 Owls' run built the advantage to the largest spread of the night, 11 points at 62-51. The hosts went on to the 10-point win.
