HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first four minutes saw minimal scoring for both teams as a defensive presence dominated. The Owls offense was able to break through and they went on an 11-5 run to finish out the first frame up by six.
-
Chandler Williams and
Murphy Murad (Storrs, Conn.) heightened the Owls offense in the second frame as they collected 16 of the eventual 20 points scored. SCSU went into halftime with a five-point lead over the Ravens.
- It was a tight race in the third quarter as the Ravens attempted to steal the lead from the Owls by tying it with 1:19 remaining in the frame, but SCSU would go on a 5-0 run in the closing minute to regain possession.
- Neither team scored in the first two and a half minutes of the fourth quarter until
Chandler Williams broke the drought with a good jump shot.
- The Ravens pushed back going on a 10-5 run and jumping ahead of the Owls by one with two minutes remaining in the game. Hurlbert would go down the other end and sink a layup to put the Owls back on top with 1:42 remaining.
- With 1:20 remaining in the game, Steinauer stole the ball from the Ravens attack. As Franklin Pierce regained possession after a failed attack by the Owls, Steinauer would steal the ball again to give the Owls a chance to defend their one-point lead with 40 seconds remaining.
- Hurlbert's good layup and Steinauer's play-reading in the closing minutes proved to be the difference maker as the Owls left Rindge, N.H. with a 55-54 win over the Ravens.
