Abby Hurlbert (Thomaston, Conn.) hit the game-winning shot as time expired in overtime to lift the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team past Saint Michael's College this afternoon, 64-63.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- SCSU started the game on a 7-1 run and held Saint Mike's scoreless for 4:32 of the first quarter.
- Both teams traded points and the lead in the second frame, but the quarter would finish deadlocked at 18 going into halftime.
- The excitement heightened in the second half of the game as both teams continued to trade points in the third frame with Saint Mike's eventually taking a brief lead. However the Owls force continued and the quarter finished at a standstill for the eighth time, 38-38.
- The script stayed the same in the fourth quarter as the both teams relentlessly battled for the lead. Hurlbert nailed a three-pointer with 1.4 seconds in regulation off a crisp pass from Steinauer to seemingly close out the game. However, Nicole Anderson of Saint Mike's counterattacked with a three pointer of her own to retie it and send it into overtime.
OVERTIME
- It was a battle from the beginning for both squads and overtime was no different. The Owls would take an early lead on a 5-0 run in the opening minute, but Saint Mike's rallied back, tying it for the 13
th time this game with 1:11 remaining in overtime.

Murphy Murad (Storrs, Conn.) made two free throws to put the Owls up by two with 1:05 remaining, but Saint Mike's countered with three good free throws-the final two by Samantha Delaney to go up by one with only 2.1 seconds remaining in overtime.
- The Owls called a timeout and advanced the ball to frontcourt.
Paige Decker (Pleasantville, N.Y.) inbounded the ball to Hurlbert, who knocked down a layup with no time remaining on the clock to lift the Owls past the Purple Knights, 64-63 in overtime.
